What is This Botanical Hair Dye:

This is the Organic Roots’ plant base hair color kit that is natural, botanical, and permanent hair color. Indigo powder for hair is grounded in leaves of the plant famous as Indigofera Tinctoria and has blue-purple dye in it. Indigo itself alone does not work effectively on grey hair, it has to be applied either by mixing with pure henna paste or else you can choose to apply it after henna treatment on your hair. This method is not only safe but also beneficial to hair however Indigo does not work effectively without henna, moreover, this is a plant-based hair dye method that gives 100% chemical-free white hair coverage into shades of brown to black by using Henna, indigo combination.

Remember this method darkens lighter shades or white hair. This method can never make dark hair towards lighter tones. For first-timers or extremely damaged hair, there comes an adjustment period to settle this natural method on hair. How much total amount of powder you need?

• Root touch up: 25-50 grams(2-4tbs)
• Shoulder length: 100-125 grams(6-9tbs)
• Mid-back: 150-175 grams(10-12tbs)

One kit has 100-gram henna and 100-gram indigo. For a root touch up one kit can be used 2-4 times depending on hair thickness. For Shoulder length, one kit is one-time use.

What is low pH acid Mix and why It is Necessary:

Organic Root provides an acidic mix complementary with the kit. You can choose one of the three given options while you buy this kit online. The acidic mix is used with henna while u make henna paste. It provides an acidic environment to henna. This helps the maximum release of dye molecules that stay longer and also give better binding to hair keratin.

1-Citric Acid

Citric acid is a weak organic acid. It occurs naturally in citrus fruits. Adding in henna helps better dye release Citric acid improves the scalp condition by getting rid of dandruff and it increases the flow of blood, which in turn enhances and mends the follicles of the hair necessary for healthy hair growth. citric acid is a great compound to treat itchy scalp, which leads often to hair loss and stops hair growth. 2-Amla

Amla is also called the Indian Gooseberry. It has vitamin C in it so it can be mixed with henna as an acid needed to activate the henna dye molecule. It also contains oodles of essential fatty acids, which strengthen hair follicles, giving your hair strength and luster. it tends to give henna a brown tint.”

3-Potassium bitartrate

Potassium bitartrate, also known as potassium hydrogen tartrate, with formula KC₄H₅O₆, In cooking it is known as cream of tartar. For dyeing hair, potassium bitartrate can be mixed with henna as the mild acid needed to activate the henna. For dyeing hair, It tends to give henna auburn shade. It is mildest Low pH

If you do not want to use any of our given acidic mix you can use your own from the kitchen. Like Lemon, Apple cider vinegar Apple juice, Orange Juice, etc. If you choose to use lemon or ACV, they are gd acidic mixes but it can be drying for some hair types, so always dilute half and half ratio with water and then use this liquid to make henna paste. and follow the method.

How to use:

There are two methods for coloring your hair with these plants. One is called two-step method for dark brown to black shade . In this method you apply indigo after henna procedure. See two step method here with commplete pictures and videos. Method Duration 4-5 hours

Other is called one-step method.. In this method you use mixture of henna and indigo for auburn to medium brown color. See See one step method here with commplete pictures and videos. Method Duration 4-5 hours

Two step method gives more long lasting results. If you have naturally dark hair then always follow two step method. If you have naturally light color hair then you can follow one step method too.

Two Step Method to Get Black Shade or Brown Shade:

When you intend to color your hair, soak henna paste 8-12 hours before application. In this method you apply henna on first step ,wash it and then you apply indigo on 2^nd step.

Ist step:

• In henna powder, mix Organic Roots’ low pH acidic powder (or else you can add juice of 3-4 lemons.)
• Make henna paste with pure luke warm r normal temperature  water (not extremly hot).
• Cover it and keep it in warm corner for 8-12 hours.
• Paste is ready to use.
• Apply on hair. Cover with plastic wrap/shower cap for 3-6 hours.
• Wash with shampoo.

2^nd step

You can do 2^nd step right after henna wash or within two days anytime, not matter on dry or wet hair.

• Make indigo paste with Luke warm water (not extremely hot)
• Add 1 teaspoon salt(optional)
• Use immediately after you makes paste.
• Apply on your hair and cover with plastic wrap/shower cap for 1-2 hours(for black shade) or 20 minutes (for brown shade)
• Wash with shampoo and conditioner
• Your hair color will oxidize and settle over the next two days.
• Repeat as required. No harm

 There is another method for getting auburn to brown shade with this same kit. this is called one step method or mixture of henna and indgio method. Equal parts of henna and indigo results in medium brown. More henna in this ratio will add warmer and redder tone, whereas more indigo in this ratio will add cooler and brown tones.

One Step Method For Auburn to Brown Shade

When you intend to color your hair, soak henna paste 8-12 hours before application.

• In henna powder, mix Organic Roots’ low pH acidic powder (or else you can add juice of 3-4 lemons.)
• Make henna paste with pure normal temperature r luke warm water (not extremely  hot).
• Cover it and keep it in warm corner for 8-12 hours.
• Paste is ready to use.
• Before you apply, make fresh indigo paste with lukewarm water(not hot) and add 1tsp salt in it. Now add immediately in prepped henna paste. Mix it well and apply on hair. Cover your hair with plastic wrap/shower cap for 3-5 hours. Wash with shampoo and conditioner.
• Your hair color will oxidize and settle over the next two days. Repeat as required. No harm

Storage:

Powder : 40°F to 80°F

Paste: Left over henna or cassia paste can keep well in freezer for later use but left over indigo has to be disposed off, it does not keep well in freezer.

Disclaimer:

• Same mixture can result different on two different heads of hair due to their different hair color and texture and hair health.
• It is safe to use henna and indigo on your hair as they are natural. However to ensure that you are not allergic to either of the plant, do a patch test. Some people have cold allergy associated with henna and some have spore allergy with fermented indigo plant.
• if your water supply is hard then it is recommended to do organic roots detox wash or clarifying treatment prior to use otherwise  minerals and metals in water can give dull and un desirous results.
